Global Resilience UK

InterHealth’s Global Resilience programme offers a range of carefully designed workshops, seminars and learning days aimed at equipping relief, development and mission workers with the awareness and practical skills that they need to keep themselves and their teams emotionally and physically healthy.

Working in the field often requires people to adapt to rapidly changing, high-pressure environments, which can make significant demands on their capacity to cope. Over time, the broad spectrum of challenges in both work and personal life can begin to erode resilience, inhibit engagement and diminish performance.

We offer tailored courses and workshops to help team leaders, managers and frontline staff to:

  • Understand the risks
  • Spot warning signs early
  • Respond rapidly and effectively to crisis
  • Take the necessary steps to maintain and bolster resilience and wellbeing

In partnership with RedR
19th – 21st Sept 2012

This specialist integrated training course is designed to equip NGO managers with the awareness and skills to ensure their health, safety and wellbeing in the field, as well as that of their teams.

The three-day course brings together two critical skill areas; travel security and psychological resilience. The course will help you build robust strategies for keeping physically safe and help you understand the psychological pressures which you and your teams are under.

Combining strategies for both short-term emergencies and longer-term deployments, the course offers a powerful set of tools that will keep you and your teams resilient and able to function effectively and calmly.

Who should attend?

Effective Team Dynamics Effective Team Dynamics

17th October 2012, 20th March 2013

For managers in relief and development, dealing with everyday relationships can often be every bit as demanding as humanitarian work itself. Left unaddressed, the often competing demands of headquarters, colleagues and staff members can lead to misunderstanding and conflict. All too often, this can have a draining impact on morale and productivity.

This thought-provoking and interactive workshop takes an in-depth look at the group dynamics that can unfold in humanitarian settings, how conflict arises, and how it can be used as a pathway to fresh and creative ways of working. Drawing on field scenarios, organisational theory and the latest practical management tools, the one-day training is aimed at equipping managers to recognise what is going on in their teams and to deal with problems early and effectively.

Learning outcomes

By the end of this day delegates will be able to:

  • Identify the range of intense emotions that arise in relief and development settings
  • Understand the impact that trying to cope with these emotions has on team dynamics and how that can lead to conflict
  • Assess the impact of past life experiences on current working relationships
  • Critically evaluate the five different approaches to dealing with conflict
  • Hold difficult conversations and offer constructive feedback based on non-violent communication principles
  • Use coaching principles for creative problem-solving.
