Community Health Global Network (CHGN) was birthed in February 2005 as a separate, self-funded initiative of InterHealth Worldwide (Reg No 1103935). It is a global network of individuals, community health workers, academics, consultants, health service providers and church leaders who are passionate about mobilising effective primary health care in developing countries.
The Network aims to:
CHGN is founded on the values, model and the teachings of Jesus, who served the needs of the poor and marginalized, out of compassion and love. We believe in a holistic approach to health, that integrates Biblical values, compassionate care and the concept of Shalom.
It is all too evident that in many parts of the world, health care is not working for the poorest communities. A different model is needed, based on the empowerment of communities, so that they themselves can prevent illness and care for their own health in well-managed programmes. We affirm that even the poorest communities have a wealth of skills and experience to address their own health problems. By encouraging health programmes to respect and work WITH these communities, rather than simply implement their own agendas, true transformation can be achieved.
Time and again we see how, when communities are given opportunities they want and programmes they can own, they are empowered to achieve the lives they desire.
We see this with programmes where communities take charge of disease detection and drug distribution, with rapid and sustainable improvements in health” Dr Margaret Chan DG WHO.
In fulfilling its mission, CHGN is committed to specific values which include:
