To mark our 20th Anniversary we have set up a new Anniversary Fund to allow us to better fulfill the goals and values that have successfully steered InterHealth for two decades!

Many mission and aid workers are based out in the field long-term, often under-resourced and without adequate support to deal with demanding lifestyle changes and crisis situations. Individuals and teams feel under-supported and small problems can escalate if not dealt with properly.

We want to help around 50 people with our anniversary funds this year, ranging from churches, youth programmes and mission and development agencies, assisting those who most need our services, but cannot afford them. This may include individuals who have contracted a tropical disease or need our psychological support, but are unable to cover the cost themselves. We also want to be able to donate our services to organisations that have experienced a serious crisis and are in real need of our support and expertise.

How we can help – specific examples

The aim of InterHealth’s holistic healthcare has always been to ensure our clients are psychologically fit and prepared for their roles, helping them to succeed in their work wherever they are. Please read about some of the people our anniversary fund can help to support:

1. A retired mission partner has decided to travel out into to the field alone to set up a new education project for a secondary school in rural Tanzania.
Using our anniversary fund we can offer a subsidised medical, vaccinations and travel supplies to the mission partner and colleagues who support the project within the first year.

2. A small sending church is extremely under resourced and sending out a small team to volunteer in the children’s unit of a mission hospital.
Using our anniversary fund we can offer the church subsidised subscription to the TravelWell Plan and free vaccinations for to up to 10 team members before they embark on their trip.

3. A community health development programme is organising their first network event overseas to build capacity and facilitate coordination of healthcare initiatives in rural India. The team is already stretched operationally and they need support to help cover their costs.
Using our anniversary fund we can support the health of the team by offering subsidised anti-malarials & vaccinations.

4. Returning from long-term assignment in the field can be a shock to the system for many people. For smaller organisations this can often get over-looked. Providing a safe and confidential opportunity for the individual to review their assignment from a personal perspective makes a real difference, helping them feel supported in their readjustment to life in the Western world.
Using our anniversary fund, we would like to provide support with a subsidised ‘Confidential Review’ with our experienced psychological health practitioners.

Worldwide network of InterHealth associated Doctors

We will also be developing a network of approved doctors across the world and delivering improved psychological support and training in the field to manage demanding and difficult situations.

On 20th April 2009 InterHealth we marked 20 years of healthcare supporting a wide range of people committed to making the world a better, fairer and healthier place. We’re now hope to support a much broader group of people in need of our services.

A natural step forward

The fund will also be used to expand and improve the way we provide our services, by allowing us to directly support those working in the field. This represents a major step forward for InterHealth, but it is also a natural one.
