About the Medical MOT

At InterHealth we aim to support you in caring for UK based staff and frequent travellers, many of whom are consultants, middle or senior managers and individuals who are passionate about their roles, but through their dedication, may neglect their own health.

We recognise that the health concerns of male and female staff can vary significantly. We aim to make our medicals as tailored to our patient needs as possible. Our Medical MOT (for male UK Staff & Frequent Travellers) does just that. The approach, advice and tests given reflect the unique needs of men. For example, we will ensure that all men aged 45+ will be offered a Prostate test.

Within their medical, frequent travellers will also benefit from an opportunity to review their travel history and exposures, and the appropriate tropical disease screening sought where necessary.

Staying well

Having a medical at InterHealth gives individuals a unique opportunity to ask questions and discuss any health problems with a sympathetic doctor. It also gives men the opportunity to look at wider health issues and discover potentially serious problems early. Critically these medicals often increase well being and productivity by a few simple interventions. They can identify health issues before they become an occupational health problem, thus saving everyone’s time, effort and resources.

Our medicals are fully confidential and include:

  • A review of the medical history
  • A physical review / examination
  • Blood pressure check
  • Set of blood tests including: anaemia and white cell check (Full Blood Count), blood sugar levels [for diabetes], cholesterol levels, kidney & liver function. We can do other tests by request including thyroid function, and prostate screening for men over 45
  • Review of travel history & exposures. Tropical disease and/ or sexual health tests can be done where necessary*
  • Discussing any work or leisure related health problems
  • Above all a chance for people to talk confidentially about any health concerns they may have

*As tests required vary, tropical disease screening is charged additionally.

These medicals can either be carried out alone, or they can be combined with either of the consultations listed below. We strongly recommend this because our wider health and well-being is usually just as important as having tests and medical examinations.

This enhanced medical offers an additional 90 minute Work Life Balance or Stress Management consultation with a member of our dedicated psychological health services team.

We care beyond the hour that you spend at our clinic

Our medicals don’t just finish at the end of the 45 minute appointment. We offer continued support and advice as a personal e-health mentor to help manage any concerns each patient may have. After the medical, individuals can get in touch with us by email anytime.

Further tests and screening

If further tests screening are required, InterHealth are able to recommend and make referral to specialist screening available on the NHS including invasive screening, breast screening, bowel cancer screening.

Any necessary tests, such as blood tests, are undertaken and a tropical screening conducted where relevant. Please enquire for further details.

What we don’t do

The purpose of these medicals is not to replace or interrupt the normal care that staff would be getting from their GP. But they do recognise that many GPs are too busy to carry out the more detailed medical checks such as we can do.

Where screening is available on the NHS such as for cervical and breast cancer we encourage clients to have these done through their medical practice. This also includes non-urgent immunisations where these are still available on the NHS.

A commitment to confidentiality

The consultation and test results are completely confidential between the individual and the doctor. No specific health information is fed back to the employer without the individual’s explicit consent.
