Access to clean water is essential if you are going to keep healthy abroad. There are many water-borne diseases, such as bacteria, parasitic cysts and viruses that can disrupt your travel plans and lead stomach upsets, subsequent dehydration and other illness. If you are travelling or staying outside the big cities you may well need to be self-sufficient when it comes to clean water.
Boiling water is the most effective way of getting rid of all the germs, but you may not always be able to do this. You should consider another form of water purification. You can fill a Platypus bottle with boiling water and leave to cool - producing a safe source of drinking water.
