Getting Active for East Africa

17 May 2013

Let’s hope they’ve been training, because this group of Londoners are about to strap on those muddy sneakers and start running for the InterHealth centre in East Africa! Getting active to raise vital funds are Mark Snelling, Kevin Belcher and Judith Bradley.

“Many people want to support the world’s poor and dispossessed, but the welfare of those who actually do that work every day is often overlooked. Caring for the carers is amazing work and it’s a privilege to be part of it, especially now that we are working to expand our services in the East Africa region.” - Mark Snelling

The Cause

With many of the organisations we support continuing to recruit more of their staff from the East Africa region, it is clear that a similar standard of care needs to be offered to both international and national east African staff.

Therefore, InterHealth in East Africa will prepare, sustain and support the staff of International and East Africa NGO’s, from both a physical and psychological viewpoint. It is our expectation that this support will improve the effectiveness of relief, development and mission agencies as their international and national workers will become physically and psychologically more resilient.

The Events

Mark and Kevin will be running a 10km course through Richmond Park on Sunday 30th June. Taking both manual and online sponsorship, they are aiming to raise funds through the support of family, friends and anyone who believe in InterHealth’s cause. Sponsor Mark through his online give.net page here!

No more than a warm-up for Kevin however, this race will act as part of his ultimate fundraising initiative to climb Mount Kenya in September! Rising to the challenge - literally – with a small team of intrepid fellow fundraisers, Kevin alone hopes to raise £5,000 towards the East Africa centre.

Meeting this tall order however, means a great deal of training, commitment and support. So to keep encouraging those early morning runs and get behind InterHealth, why not get involved and sponsor Kevin with a donation to his online give.net page here! Or if you’re interested in joining the climb, contact us via email at [email protected] for more details.

Having recently taken part in The London MoonWalk 2013 to raise funds for breast cancer, Judith is now continuing her charitable efforts with ‘The Turks Head’ 10km run in Twickenham for InterHealth on Sunday 9th June. Sponsor her online here!

“I was cared for by InterHealth before, during and after my time as a CMS mission partner working as a midwife in a remote part of North West Pakistan… I am excited by the new venture in East Africa and hope this will prove a start for the much needed support of InterHealth.” - Judith Bradley

The Result

Running and even climbing, this group of supporters are leading the way for a future of InterHealth fundraising initiatives. By getting active, they are helping transform our vision of an East Africa centre into a reality and enabling us to continue our work in supporting those making the world a better, fairer and healthier place.

On behalf of InterHealth, we thank them for getting involved and wish them the best of luck with their upcoming events!
