This is a one day First Aid course especially designed for overseas workers and volunteers.

The successful completion of this course leads to the award of the British Red Cross endorsed Basic First Aid for Overseas Workers Certificate, valid for 3 years.  The workshop is facilitated by Adi Robinson, a British Red Cross Training & Development Manager, and Lyn Covey, a British Red Cross First Aid Specialist & Trainer.

The following topics are covered:

- Introduction to First Aid

  • Incident management
  • Initial assessment
  • Security

- Contents of a First Aid Kit

- Care of the Unconscious Casualty – ABC & recovery position

- CPR Rescue Breaths & Chest Compressions

- Recognition & Management of Bleeding

  • Recognition & management of shock
  • Recognition & management of internal bleeding
  • Management of mine injuries & bullet wounds

- General Management of Fractures

- Miscellaneous Conditions

Including: Effects of extreme temperature, asthma, snake bites, diarrhoea, malaria and minor injuries.

- Practical Exercise
