InterHealth

As a travelwellplan subscriber, you are entitled to free telephone and email advice from a nurse at InterHealth, if you cannot find the information you need on the Travel Health Advice Centre. There are safeguards to ensure the standard of service to callers and to patients booked in for appointments is maintained as high as possible, without increasing our resources.

A phone consultation cannot provide the level of personal, detailed advice which is offered during a face-to-face consultation. We strongly encourage travellers to plan ahead and make a face to face appointment at InterHealth or with another travel health provider in good time (at least six weeks ahead) rather than leave things to the last minute and hope a phone call will provide all the information required.

Telephone advice service timetable

One of our nurses is available to take calls between 2pm and 3pm every working day and takes calls on a "first-come-first served basis". This session may be extended when demand is very high. Please call our reception line on 020 7902 9000 and press option 2.

Range of advice given

Full travel health advice cannot be provided over the phone as this is very complex and extremely time-consuming. The nurses can answer specific queries about a vaccine or an antimalarial. They aim to spend a MAXIMUM OF FIVE MINUTES with each caller. An unusual query may necessitate further research, whereupon the nurse will offer to ring the caller back.

Callers should carry out some basic research themselves on THAC before they phone. It’s also very helpful if callers have their immunisation booklet to hand. Clients should be prepared to disclose details about their own medical history and that of their immediate family. They also need to make it very clear if they are taking any medication or are intending to when they travel, however trivial this may seem.

Urgent Enquiries

If clients have a genuinely urgent query about travel health issues outside the 2-3pm session, we will try to get it answered as soon as possible.  Our reception team will help as much as they can, but please bear in mind that it is not always possible to interrupt clinical staff.

E-Mail Enquiries

Clients can also email short queries to us. Again, we cannot provide full travel health consultations by email (please see above).
