InterHealth

Psychological Profile

What happens?

There will be an in-depth, unhurried interview with one of the InterHealth Psychological Health Services team, lasting 60 – 90 minutes. All of the team are experienced in working with people involved in overseas aid, development and mission as well as the UK voluntary and business sectors, they therefore have a good understanding of both the stresses and satisfactions inherent in these areas of work. You will be seen individually, but if you come as a couple you may also be seen together for part of the time.

What is it for?

Your organisation has requested a psychological profile to help you think through important issues as you apply to work with them and to inform their process of selection of candidates.  In most cases this will be for placement overseas, but it may also be applicable for UK posts. The aim is to work with you to highlight your strengths and to identify areas of current concern as well as exploring anything that has the potential to cause difficulties in the future.

What do we talk about?

You will be asked to talk about yourself with reference to your life history, family background and current situation. Questions will cover a wide range of matters and will include how you have handled any past difficulties. Personal areas such as sexual matters are addressed.  If you wish to raise anything not covered by the interviewer there will be an opportunity to do that.

What happens next?

The interviewer will write a report which is supplied to a person named in your organisation requesting the profile.  You will receive your own copy.  It will outline the main areas covered and will include professional opinions and recommendations as appropriate.

What about your concerns?

If you wish personal details to remain confidential this will be respected, although professional opinions and recommendations are always included in the report.

We hope that the process of thinking through your psychological profile is a positive and supportive one for you and that it will enable you to prepare for your next step.
