Information and advice on immunisations
What immunisations do I need?
This will vary depending on where and for how long you are going and what you will be doing. If your agency is a subscriber to the TravelWell Plan you can access the Travel Health Advice Centre to search for the country you’re going to. This is in addition to all our other services and can be used as a supportive and preventative information tool. Alternatively phone the Advice Line between 2 and 3pm Monday - Friday.
Can I come to InterHealth for my immunisations?
All individuals can come to InterHealth and use our Travel Clinic. If you or your agency is a subscriber you are entitled to reduced prices. We offer all travel immunisations currently available in the UK. There is a charge for these. Some are available from some GPs free and you will need to enquire at your own GP surgery.
Why should I get my immunisations done at InterHealth instead of my GP?
InterHealth is known as a one stop shop, which is quick and straightforward. We get many referrals from GP’s if they don’t stock the relevant immunisations. Whenever we give immunisations our travel health team also spend time at no extra charge looking at other hazards you should be aware of during travel, including malaria advice.
Will I have to pay for my travel health consultation if I receive recommended immunisations?
No, where immunisations are provided by InterHealth, there is no additional charge for the travel health consultation (THC). If you are a subscriber the THC is free in both instances. If you are a non-subscriber and decide not to have any immunisations, then you will be charged for the THC only. Many people don’t realise that although vaccinations are important than one in ten episodes of illness overseas is prevented by vaccination- so getting really informed through a THC or a simple health manual is very important.
What tests are done with the nurse?
Nurses give vaccines and assess you travel health requirements. If you are feeling unwell or are worried about your health or have noticed something unusual, please arrange an appointment with one of our doctors. The travel clinic is designed for vaccines and doing a risk assessment for your trip and then giving targeted advice. Our nurses can also do blood tests if these have been requested by an InterHealth doctor or if you want to know your blood group.
