Medicals

Types of medicals, what to expect and feedback on test results

What to expect from a medical?
You will usually see both a doctor and a nurse. Height, weight and blood pressure measurements will be taken. During the medical there will be time for you to discuss any particular health problems you have and this will be followed by a general examination. There would usually then be a blood test. For any more personal parts of the examination, the doctor would explain why this may be necessary. Clients would be free to opt out if they so wished.

If you would particularly like to see a female doctor please ask for this at the time you make an appointment.

What type of medical examination do I need?
InterHealth offers a variety of medical examinations. Please click here to select and decide what would be most appropriate. If you are with an agency they will often suggest what the best fit is or book you in themselves.

What is the difference between a medical and a travel health consultation (THC)?
A medical is with one of our doctors who is qualified to give you a full medical check up. The travel consultation is designed for immunisations, assessing the requirements of your trip and for travel health advice.

What tests are done with the doctor?
We have access to the doctor’s laboratory in London - one of the most sophisticated in England and virtually any blood test can be arranged through a sample taken at InterHealth. We are able to do malaria slides and HIV tests and usually get these back within a few hours.

I hate having medicals. Will people explain what I need to do and can I opt out of any examination if I don’t want to have it?
We are very aware of the natural fears and sensitivities that many people have. We will try and explain at each step of the way and if we don’t please ask. If there is an examination you really don’t want to have, please tell the doctor or nurse and we will try and spare you unless it‘s really essential.
