Resources

It is our hope that the new CHGN website will provide members with a user friendly E-learning Zone, through the promotion of key community-focused training materials, articles, events, useful links and other related resources produced by UN agencies, NGOs and FBOs around the world. For example Tearfund’s International Learning Zone (TILZ).

Ever since helping to set up health programmes in the Indian Himalayas, mainly under the auspices of the Emmanuel Hospital Association, Ted Lankester has witnessed first hand how isolated, resource-poor communities can be empowered to diagnose and treat a large majority (75+%) of health problems themselves.

Combining his experiences with those of many others, he subsequently wrote ‘Setting up Community Health Programmes’ (Macmillan) in 1992. This book was adopted by the WHO as one of their key resources for PHC mobile libraries. This year has seen its 3rd Edition, and the book complements and encompasses much of CHGN’s vision and approach. You can order a copy for yourself at the TALC website.

"People are increasingly impatient with the inability of health services to deliver levels of national coverage that meet stated demands and changing needs, and with their failure to provide services in ways that correspond to their expectations. Few would disagree that health systems need to respond better – and faster – to the challenges of a changing world. PHC can do that."

Only with the right knowledge and resources, will PHC be able to respond to the health challenges of today. CHGN wants to help equip the PHC workforce to play their part.

If you have useful resources on any topics related to community health, please do consider sharing them with the network. To do so, please email team@chgn.org.
