Clusters

CHGN recognises in many resource- poor parts of the world that community health programmes are often working in isolation. They are often disconnected from each otjher and from national health programmes. CHGN is therefore urgently seeking to set up clusters and and local networks to bring programmes together for greater impact and effectiveness.

The Cluster Vision

The vision of Community Health Global Network (CHGN) clusters is to ignite active coordination, mutual support and the sharing of resources amongst CHGN members in relational, geographically focused groups. More specifically, cluster members will be empowered to:

  • maximize the impact of community-based health care in their region, in culturally relevant ways.

  • promote faith-based and community-based approaches to healthcare.

  • share their ideas, experiences, challenges, resources, skills and good practice with each other.

  • build credibility and influence in their region by learning together to work alongside private, charitable and national health programmes

Cluster Communication

Cluster members can hold regular meetings and set up email groups, in order to establish and build relationships based on trust, accountability and mutual learning. The UK-based CHGN team will support local ideas and initiatives, and hopes that each new cluster will be lead by a champion based in the region.

Following the highly successful launch of the ‘Linking to Learn’ (L2L) Cluster in the Uttarakhand region of India in September 2008, we are looking to encourage the formation of new clusters where there is the enthusiasm and collective will of a critical mass of CHGN members. There is now great potential for new and unique clusters to grow in Bangladesh, Malawi, Burma and Kenya…

If you would like further information on clusters, to express an interest in forming a cluster in your region or offer any comments on the cluster vision, please email team@chgn.org.
