General Consultation
Who is it for?
You may be referred by your employer or you may book a General Consultation as an independent InterHealth subscriber.
The appointment will be entirely confidential unless your referring agency has asked for an opinion on your psychological health. We will always discuss this with you and ask for your consent in writing before the consultation begins.
If a fuller report is requested by your referring agency we may recommend an Occupational Health Consultation.
What is it for?
It is to think about whatever it is that is troubling you in order to seek a way forward. The aim is to work with you to see what appropriate possibilities are available. These vary enormously as people come to the consultation with widely varying concerns, ranging from stress management to problem drinking, from relationship breakdown to depression.
However ordinary or however bizarre it seems to you, if it troubles you, you can bring it up in the General Consultation.
What happens?
There will be an hour set aside for you with one of the InterHealth Psychological Health Services team who will listen very carefully to whatever you have to say and discuss your concerns with you.
What happens next?
That depends on what you decide about the options discussed. There may be follow-up at InterHealth, or other sorts of referrals suggested. You may find that the consultation in itself has enabled you to move forward without further support. Some people choose to return to InterHealth for personal counselling where this is the agreed way forward.
Usually the InterHealth staff member will remind you that you may return for a follow-up appointment at a later date, to review how you feel things are going. People often like this option. It is, of course, up to you what you decide.
We hope that you will find the consultation really helpful in beginning to find your way through what is troubling you at present.
