Coaching at InterHealth

What is coaching?

Coaching is:  “Guiding and supporting an individual to live their vision, their mission and their purpose using a coach’s skills of listening, empowering, strategising and developing."

Coaching aims to help clients move forward from where they are, to where they would like to be, and to what they would like to achieve in the future. The coach's job is to help a client reflect, focus and decide what is right for them and then be motivated and able to succeed in these areas. Together the coach and client create a way of progressing from the present towards the intended goals.

Coaching provides a confidential, supportive and encouraging relationship in which the client has both control of and responsibility for the agenda and their own development.

Many of InterHealth’s clients often have:

  • to work in remote locations or isolated roles such as leadership;
  • to frequently adapt to new professional roles;
  • to work in separation from line managers and other support structures;
  • limited opportunities for traditional methods of learning and development due to the cost, and these are rarely tailored to specifically meet individuals’ ongoing needs.

When is coaching of value?

Coaching is very flexible and can be of use during different stages of both work and general life, such as:

  • Preparing to depart on assignments
  • ‘Growing into’ a new role
  • Ongoing support in ‘isolated’ roles
  • Preparing to return home and transition on return
  • Individuals feeling as though they are in a rut

How can coaching occur?

Most coaching happens over the telephone, so is very flexible with global possibilities rather than restrictions confined by location; and email offers a great resource for follow up support between sessions. If possible, the coach and client may arrange an initial face to face appointment.
